Encourage an alkaline body environment instead of an acidic one.
We have to look at the whole range of foods we consume, not just what we’ve locked in on and eat because it gives us pleasure, or out of habit.
Our bodies require different nutrients from different foods and we have to make sure we’re getting everything we need – different milks, for example, provide different benefits depending on who we are and our unique nutritional goals.
Stress, relationships and exercise are as important as nutrition. And while changing what you eat will affect your health in a positive way, it’s an easier path to wellness if you practice being attentive to and aware of your entire life experience. Your habits of spirituality, sleep, hygiene, exercise, work, relationship and attitude all combine to affect the way your body functions. Changing one aspect will help, but becoming aware or and working on your whole person will accelerate and ease the process.
Integrate new nutrition principles s-l-o-w-l-y.
You will have more success if you embrace these new lessons and changes one small step at a time. This is a process—not a quick fix. Try the easiest aspects of your new health goals first. You will be making your body and mind healthier and readier for the next step, and the step after that. They say a journey of ten thousand miles begins with a single step- the journey toward your ultimate health and well-being begins the same way, with one meal, one walk, one simple choice to do better.
This simply acknowledges what we all know to be true. Rigid food rules don’t work for most people. Give yourself time to enjoy some foods or behaviors that might not necessarily be in line with your nutritional goals once in a while! If you can be focused on your healthy principles and the plan and guidelines we’ll develop for you 90-percent of the time, you’ll be able to go off-plan and have that cupcake or extra glass of wine, or eat that piece of rhubarb pie you’re too polite to turn down.
We have an emotional relationship with the food we eat – among other factors, we grow up with a family style of eating, we’re often concerned with how what we eat affects how we look and feel, and, of course, we tend to want the foods we’re told we can’t have.
But I strongly believe that improving your relationship with food doesn’t have to be based on “don’t eat this or don't eat that.”- it’s much more about being aware: “eat the foods you like, but do it right.” This is the basis for my principles. Educate yourself, find out what foods are good for you, incorporate those foods into your daily life, and you’ll be surprised by what you can eat, and how much you’ll enjoy it!
